family reunification program
This program is modeled after a highly successful Michigan-based program that was effective in reunifiying 85% of children in families completing the program without further evidence of abuse or neglect.
In an effort to have children in care return sooner and safer to their families, Youth Alternatives Ingraham created the Family Reunification Program, which provides intensive home-based services to assist families during the transitional period when children return from an out-of-home placement. The program's case management, parenting education, and therapeutic interventions — both individual and family-focused — strive to ensure that families can meet the needs of their children.
How Family Reunification Helps
A Master's level clinician and a trained family support worker are available 24/7 to help family members resolve the issues that resulted in the child's removal from the home. This is an intensive service; families participate in 16-18 hours of direct assessment and in-home intervention the first month of service and average 8 hours of service thereafter. During that time, the family reunification team at Youth Alternatives Ingraham helps parents:
- Enhance their parenting skills
- Improve their communication skills
- Work through substance abuse issues
- Learn home management and budgeting skills
- Address domestic violence concerns

Who's Eligible for Family Reunification Services?
Youth Alternatives Ingraham offers its Family Reunification Program to families who are experiencing multiple problems, such as substance abuse, safety issues or domestic violence. Families must reside in either Cumberland or York county.
