— A Safe, Happy Start for New Families
All parents want their baby to be safe, healthy, happy and ready to learn. Healthy Families Partnership with Youth Alternatives Ingraham helps parents get their families off to a good start. Our professional parent partners visit first-time parents in their homes and give them the skills and support they need to make smart decisions and positive choices for their families.
In addition to home visiting, Healthy Families offers parents the opportunity to connect with other parents by attending our parenting activities, play sessions and support groups. Or parents may choose that receiving age-specific developmental mailings works best for their family. How parents choose to work with Healthy Families is up to them.
How a Parent Partner Helps
Parent partners are experienced educators, trained in the latest positive parenting techniques. They can help you:
- Assess your child's growth and social, emotional and intellectual development
- Learn more about age-appropriate skills and activities
- Establish a loving relationship with your child
- Make your home a baby-safe environment
- Cope with common challenges, like teething, sleep and discipline
- Gain confidence in your parenting
What's more your parent partner can help put you in touch with the advice, care and resouces (housing, nutrition, childcare, medical, etc.) that your family needs.
Who's Eligible?
Our services are available free of charge to first-time parents throughout most of Cumberland county. To be eligible for home visiting, parents must enroll prenatally or before the baby reachs three months of age. Parent partners can start visiting families before their children are born and be there for families until their child goes to kindergarten.
