Youth Alternatives Family Center
How You Can Help
At the turn of the last century, boys from all over Maine were sent to a correctional facility in South Portland for such minor offenses as disobedience, or stealing food. Forced to work at what became known as Brick Hill, the boys made the bricks that built local landmarks and gracious neighborhoods like Portland’s West End. One hundred years later, the historic barn at Brick Hill has been reclaimed for a new purpose—building and cementing strong, positive family relationships. Youth Alternatives will complete the restoration and redemption of this barn in 2007. Maine’s most vulnerable children and families will be able to access all the help they need in one safe, supportive place.
In homage to the boys of Brick Hill, we invite you to make a onetime donation that will last a lifetime. Your contribution of $250 - $749 to the Family Center entitles you to an engraved 4 x 8 inch brick. A donation of $750 or more includes an engraved 8 x 8 inch engraved brick tile. These bricks will pave the courtyard of the Youth Alternatives Family Center and permanently record the commitment of you, your family or your business to our efforts to keep families together. Safe. Strong. At home.
