Lee Perry memorial fund
"Lee Perry's fully-enjoyed life offered such vitality, warmth and humor to those surrounding him. As an organization, we are moved to honor the wondrous spirit that guided Lee through life."
— Michael J. Tarpinian, President, Youth Alternatives Ingraham
A true advocate for families, R. Lee Perry was a respected and much-loved member of the Youth Alternatives Ingraham family. As both a member and chair of the Youth Alternatives Ingraham Board of Trustees, Lee donated his time and many talents towards the agency's mission of advancing safe, healthy, happy childhoods and positive family relationships.
His endeavors helped give children left to the streets a warm bed; provided self-esteem to those without hope; and offered those living with fear a peace to grow, free from abuse. His humanity is a model for us all. Lee understood that feeding the curiousity of young minds can serve as a gateway to a lifetime of exploration, and that enrichment experiences can play a vital role in the healthy development of young people.
In honor of his memory and in tribute to his adventurous and contagious spirit, the Lee Perry Memorial Fund provides youth in our programs with scholarships for:
- summer camp
- art classes
- mountaineering skills
- other activities, limited only by their imaginations
The Lee Perry Memorial Fund provides these opportunities for children in need; opportunities that other children growing up in Maine take for granted. Recently, contributions to the fund from GoFish and the Osher Memorial Foundation allowed six residents of Bass House to enjoy four days of canoeing and seminars on outdoor safety, awareness, teamwork and canoe skills on a camping trip on the Moose River in northwestern Maine. The benefit of wilderness experience for youth struggling with self-esteem issues, peer pressure or personal hardship are many; it can go a long way in restoring their spirit, mental health and positive outlook.
