How You Can Help

How You Can Help

Help strengthen your community.  Youth Alternatives Ingraham offers many opportunities for donating or volunteering

Giving Options

Annual Fund Giving

Support for the Annual Fund, which is typically unrestricted, is critical to Youth Alternatives Ingraham's mission. In addition, annual support allows Youth Alternatives Ingraham to seek and retain funding from private foundations and United Way chapters across Maine.

Corporate Sponsorship

Youth Alternatives Ingraham connects with the community it serves through special fundraising and appreciation events throughout the year. Businesses and organizations help us to advance our fundraising goals through sponsorships and contributions towards these events; defraying costs and providing exposure and support.

If you or your employer is interested in partnering with Youth Alternatives Ingraham, we would love to discuss with you the benefits available to you at your level of contribution. Not only will your sponsorship benefit Maine's kids and families, but your customers will know of your commitment to improving our community.

Stocks & Securities

By making a gift of stocks or securities to Youth Alternatives Ingraham, you help those in nees, and take advantage of favorable tax laws, including

  • Reducing your income taxes. Your income tax deduction is based on the full market value of the shares of stock on the date the stock is donated.
  • Avoiding paying capital gains tax. You are not selling your stock; you are giving it to Youth Alternatives Ingraham, an organization exempt from capital gains tax when we sell the stock.

Planned Giving

Planned giving offers financial options that benefit both the donor and Youth Alternatives Ingraham. By including Youth Alternatives Ingraham as part of your planned giving program, you will not only provide your loved ones with financial security, but you will also ensure that Youth Alternatives Ingraham will be able to continue to provide vital services to some of Maine's most vulnerable community members. It's a legacy that anyone can create, and of which we can all be proud.

Some examples of planned gifts:

  • Bequests—Give a charitable gift in your will.
  • Life Insurance—Donate your life insurance policy to Youth Alternatives Ingraham.
  • Charitable Remainder Trust—You and/or other beneficiaries receive either a percentage of the trust's assets valued annually, or a specified amount annually. Youth Alternatives Ingraham receives the remainder of trust at income beneficiary's death or termination of the trust. Additional gifts to the trust are allowed.
  • Donation - Gifts of real estate or personal property.

In Kind Donations

Want to give a more tangible and targeted gift to Maine's children, adults, and families? Youth Alternatives Ingraham programs and residences are always in need of basic, useful items that would improve the lives of kids, adults, and families in our care. They help us meet our clients' needs without expending operating funds.

Jonathan Derrah Memorial Fund

"With the establishment of this fund, the Derrah family honors Jonathan's life by bringing young people in our programs who have college aspirations one step closer to their dreams."— Michael J. Tarpinian, President, Youth Alternatives Ingraham

This fund was created by the family of Jonathan Derrah, a young man who passed away in 2005 while a student at college. Through this fund, kids who receive support and care from our organization and who aspire to further their education, can get help for school-related costs they otherwise could not afford.

Lee Perry Memorial Fund

A true advocate for families, R. Lee Perry was a respected and much-loved member of the Youth Alternatives Ingraham family. Lee understood that feeding the curiosity of young minds can serve as a gateway to a lifetime of exploration, and that enrichment experiences can play a vital role in the healthy development of young people.

In honor of his memory and in tribute to his adventurous and contagious spirit, the Lee Perry Memorial Fund provides youth in our programs with scholarships for:

  • summer camp
  • art classes
  • mountaineering skills
  • other activities, limited only by their imaginations

Please consult your financial advisor for information regarding your potential tax benefits of charitable giving.
