Youth Alternatives/Ingraham to Benefit from Schoolhouse Arts Center Play

PORTLAND (March 8, 2008) — The Schoolhouse Arts Center in Standish has reserved a block of 50 tickets to the April 9 performance of the teen drama Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep for teenagers served by Youth Alternatives/Ingraham programs.  All proceeds from the Wednesday night performance will benefit Youth Alternatives/Ingraham.  The play begins at 7:30 p.m.  at the Schoolhouse Arts Center just north of the junction of Rtes. 35 and 114 in Standish.

The play reveals high school life through both the funny and the painful stories of Julie, Lexie, Sam, Adam, Redstreak, and others.  In rehearsals, the student actors from six southern Maine high schools have recognized from their school experiences the truths of loneliness, cliques, parental neglect, and risky sexual behavior as well as friendship, trust, school success, and healthy self-esteem brought to life in this exceptional play.

Playwright Jerry Walker, 66, is a 30- year veteran Maine high school teacher and jazz and drama program director. He is also a grandparent. He knows well the world he has written about in this play.

Schoolhouse Arts' production team believes that the stories of the young people in Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep ought to be seen by as many teens, families, educators, student service staff, and legislators as possible.  This is why they have made 50 free passes available to the offices of Youth Alternatives/Ingraham to be distributed to the residential homes and foster families associated with the organization.  The remaining 50 seats at the April 9th performance will be offered in mailings to educators and student service staff at the six area high schools where are actors are students as well as to local legislators at a special price of $15. Call 642-3743 for more info on purchasing those tickets.
